Here is the first edition of one of Carey & Lea's most desirable atlases, focused entirely on the Americas. Many highly sought after maps are included in the 46 double paged maps, including individual state maps with detailed text about history, climate and other key aspects. Original hand color. A very informative reference for an early United States. Rebound with ½ black calfskin, gilt decorated spine matching existing, paper covered boards with black leather gilt decorated corners and label. Pages were professionally cleaned where needed, and any chips, etc. repaired. Most maps near fine, others with faint foxing. Pages quite flexible and not brittle. One would be hard pressed to find a better copy of this landmark atlas. Great addition for the serious collector.  Published in Philadelphia.
